Camden Children/Young People’s Speech and Language Therapy Service

Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist

Full time 9 month Fixed Term Maternity Leave Cover

We are looking for an experienced, creative and dynamic colleague to cover a nine month maternity leave in the Camden Early Years' Service.

Camden Early Years’ Service is an innovative and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists who provide a range of interventions for young children and their parents, such as video parent child interaction therapy, social communication therapy and interactive story telling groups.  We meet regularly to discuss service development,  present case studies and share evidenced-based practice and have well-established systems and care pathways.

Our current quality improvement projects include improving parental engagement and we are looking for someone with a tenacious and empathetic approach to collaborating with parents and carers.

The post –holder would take a lead role in the children's centre SLT team, developing the service to children from vulnerable families.  SLTs working in this team have small caseload of families in one of the localities and work closely with colleagues in the Camden Integrated Early years team which includes Family Workers, Health Visitors and CAMHS practitioners.

The post holder would also work in the  Health Centres alongside less experienced SLTs to support the development of their clinical skills and decision making.   The health centre team share a caseload across four health centres and provide a range of innovative interventions for pre-school children with a range of communication needs.   We have good links with nurseries and provide regular training for Early Years Practitioners across Camden.

Interest, enthusiasm, confidence and flexibility will be essential, and in return we can offer support and supervision, service management, and professional development.

The Camden Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of the wider Speech and Language Therapy Service across Camden, Islington and Haringey – managed by Whittington Health. The Service places a strong emphasis on personal and professional development.

Whittington Health offers:

  • Excellent line management and peer support
  • Strong commitment to staff development
  • Full programme of induction
  • An emphasis on team working
  • Regular clinical supervision
  • Family friendly policies
  • A range of benefits including a season ticket loan scheme
