By applying for this role, you accept in the event you are successful that your personal data may be transferred from the Trust to another NHS organisation where your employment transfers within the NHS. This is in accordance with the streamlining programme which is aimed at saving you time and improving efficiencies within the NHS when your employment transfers.

This is an exciting new venture - a rolling secondment to enable 2 nurses (or midwives) per year to spend time working within the Research Delivery Team. We are looking for a Band 5 Junior Research Nurse to join us c/o NIHR Clinical Research Network: North Thames to support the delivery of high quality research. The post is a 6 month secondment opportunity to give current clinical nurses the chance to develop and experience a research role whilst building capacity and capability for future research.

Initially we are looking for nursing staff currently working within the Surgery and Cancer or Emergency and Integrated Medicine ICSUs. You will work alongside the research team to manage and support clinical trials across a range of specialities including: anaesthesia, critical care, dermatology, diabetes, haematology, infectious diseases, injuries and emergencies, oncology, respiratory, rheumatology and surgery.

You will be supporting research at the Whittington Hospital, and occasionally other NHS Trusts in North Thames.  Working with the team you will promote high standards of both patient care and research practice and contribute to the recruitment and retention of patients in those trials. You will manage your own caseload including taking consent and collecting clinical samples and data from participants. You should have excellent communication skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate others. You should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and innovation when faced with challenges and will utilise management skills in conducting the trials and managing their caseload. You will contribute to the presentation of trials to potential participants to ensure their appropriate recruitment, treatment and retention.

Willingness to work flexibly and across hospital sites including other Trusts within the North Thames area is an essential aspect of this post.
