This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Respiratory Physiologist to lead the growing Lung Function and Sleep service at the Whittington Hospital, which is part of the integrated care organisation, Whittington Health. The service currently performs a variety of pulmonary function tests and sleep investigations for both in-patients and out-patients, including spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes (by body plethysmography and nitrogen washout), reversibility testing, respiratory muscle strength testing, simple oximetry, multichannel sleep studies, transcutaneous pCO2 and capillary blood gases.

The sleep service diagnoses and provides comprehensive CPAP treatment to over 700 patients with OSAHS, working closely with the lead sleep consultant through weekly MDT meetings, in which results and treatment pathways are discussed. The post-holder will work with and manage 1.8WTE respiratory physiologists. The department also works closely with a variety of internal and external specialties including respiratory psychologists, bariatric surgeons and NIV services, to provide both holistic and personalised treatment of OSAHS.

The candidate should hold a BSc degree in Clinical Physiology and have a relevant professional qualification (ARTP Part 1 & Part 2). Experience working in a Lung Function and Sleep department at a senior level with managerial duties is required. Candidates should be registered with RCCP (or equivalent). Research and audits are encouraged and supported by the Respiratory team and the Trust, with experience of both being desirable.
