By applying for this role, you accept in the event you are successful that your personal data may be transferred from the Trust to another NHS organisation where your employment transfers within the NHS. This is in accordance with the streamlining programme which is aimed at saving you time and improving efficiencies within the NHS when your employment transfers.

Whittington Health NHS Trust Pathology Department is seeking to appoint a Consultant Histopathologist to join their friendly, efficient small team of consultants on a 10 Programmed Activity per week basis (8DCC; 2SPA). The position is available immediately and is for six months in the first instance (with a view to extension and/or substantive appointment).

The department is fully accredited to UKAS standard ISO 15189:2012 - Medical Laboratories, dealing with approximately 12000 surgical cases, 800 non-gynae cytology specimens and 25000 gynae cytology specimens per year. The laboratory is on site and is currently independent and operated by a small team of long-standing biomedical staff.

The case mix is that normally seen in a district general hospital covering a wide range of specialities with Consultants taking an integral role in cancer MDTs. The key cancer sites are breast, colorectal, skin and urological cancer. Participation in the general rota is required with specialist interests in two or more of the following areas: breast, colorectal, skin and urological pathology. Participation in provision of the cytology service (cervical and diagnostic) is not required. Participation in the autopsy service is desirable but not essential.

The department is in a period of flux, with many exciting opportunities on the horizon. It is likely that within the next year, Whittington Health NHS Trust Pathology Department will formalise arrangements to join a pathology network thereby increasing the size of the Consultant/ BMS team and scope of work.

Applicants must have broad training and experience in Histopathology, have full registration with the General Medical Council and should also be on the Specialist Register, or be in possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training in Histopathology (or equivalent).

Applicants, who for personal reasons, wish to work part-time or flexible hours are welcome to apply.
