Consultant in Emergency Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Whittington Health.

Whittington Health has a thriving and innovative Emergency Department with a focus on clinical excellence. Demand is steadily growing and we now see 110,000 attendances per year. We are expanding our Consultant workforce from 10 to 12 whole time equivalent Consultants in Emergency Medicine in order to meet this demand and provide shop-floor presence 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You will join a dedicated and passionate team committed to providing a first class service in terms of quality, safety, innovation and education.

As an Integrated Care Organisation, Whittington Health is commissioned to provide acute and community services to meet the needs of our diverse population. This means the Trust is well placed to deliver 21st century healthcare that crosses the traditional boundaries between primary and secondary care. Our mission is "Helping local people live longer, healthier lives". The Trust is committed and striving to deliver seven day services across the organisation.

The Emergency Department has a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, a Clinical Decision Unit and a dedicated Children's Emergency Department. The department has its own dedicated imaging suite with "hot-seat" radiology presence during the day and point of care ultrasound. The Trust has led the way in Ambulatory Care, with the establishment of a new service that has received national acclaim. Recently we opened a Rapid Assessment area at the front door of the Emergency Department in order to support new ways of working in the approach to initial assessment. We are a designated Trauma Unit, as part of the North East London and Essex Trauma Network.

This is an exciting time for the Emergency Department. You will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the department and take part in hospital wide initiatives to improve Emergency Care and the patient experience across the whole of the acute pathway.

Applicants with a recognised subspecialty or other specialist interest are welcome. You must be accredited in Emergency Medicine and be on the GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Specialist Register (at the date of interview).

Applications for part time working are welcome.
